Both cabins run full spectrum infrared, both seat two, and both are indoor units on a domestic circuit. The differences sit in four places: what you pay, what the cabin weighs, whether red light is specified in nanometres, and how long each company will stand behind the thing. The row SaunaBox loses outright
Warranty, mostly. Finnmark covers the FD-2 for ten years. SaunaBox covers the Solara for one. That is a real, ongoing cost difference and it is the single strongest argument for paying Finnmark's premium. A two-year plan is sold separately by SaunaBox; it is not included.
Cabin electronics. An LCD touchscreen, Bluetooth and 6-inch HiFi speakers are standard on the FD-2. The Solara does not publish an audio system. If you want the cabin to be the stereo, Finnmark ships it.
Third-party safety marks. Finnmark publishes ETL and UL certification. SaunaBox does not publish an equivalent mark for the Solara. That is a documentation gap, not evidence of a difference in safety, but it is a gap.
20 °F of headroom. The FD-2 tops out at 170 °F, the Solara at 150 °F. Whether that matters depends entirely on how you use an infrared cabin, which is covered below.
A red light specification. This is the clearest gap in the table and it runs the other way. The Solara publishes a full-length front-mounted panel at 660 nm and 850 nm. Finnmark describes long-wave carbon and short-wave Spectrum Plus infrared, which is a heating architecture, not a red light therapy specification. If red light is why you are buying, one of these two tells you what you are getting.
Speed. The FD-2 reaches 170 °F in under an hour. The Solara reaches 150 °F in about 25 minutes. For a weekday session before work, the number that matters is how long you stand around waiting, and there the Solara is ahead.
Portability. 393 lb against 300 lb. Neither is furniture you move casually, but a 93 lb difference is one fewer person needed on the day and a meaningfully lighter load on an upstairs floor.
Infrared cabins do not work the way a traditional sauna works. A Finnish room heats the air to 180–200 °F and the air heats you. An infrared cabin emits radiant heat that warms tissue directly, which is why infrared sessions run at lower air temperatures and still produce a heavy sweat.
So 170 °F against 150 °F is a real difference, but it is not the difference between working and not working. It is a preference for how hot the air around you feels. If what you actually want is 200 °F air, neither of these is the right category — that is a traditional sauna, and SaunaBox sells one.
Ten years against one year is not a rounding error and we are not going to write around it. If you weight long-term coverage heavily, Finnmark is the stronger buy on that row and the $1,496 is a reasonable price for nine extra years of cover.
What we would say is that the two figures are not measuring the same thing. A warranty is a commercial promise, not a durability measurement, and neither company publishes a mean-time-to-failure figure that would let you compare the hardware directly. Buy the warranty if the warranty is what you want; do not read it as a published statement about build quality, because it is not one.
